Arson attempt at Erith Recycling Centre.

Police and Fire Brigade officers attended an arson attempt at Erith Recycling Centre in James Watt Way at 2.50pm this afternoon. A member of the Erith Watch team was also on hand. The fire was started in some illegally fly - tipped mattresses and old furniture that had been left on site. The fire was soon extinguished and the site made safe. Suspects are two boys aged 15-16. One is about five foot four with dark, short hair; the other is about five foot seven with brownish / ginger collar length hair. Both ride BMX type bicycles and have been caught attempting to light fires amongst dumped materials in the recycling centre on previous occasions. As a bonus, a van turned up to illegally fly tip more material, but the Erith Safer Neighbourhoods Police Team were able to give the operators a warning before an offence was actually committed.  If you have any information on the teenage arsonists, please contact the Police on 0208 721 2048. In an emergency ring 999.
